Situated in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, Kandy is the last Sinhalese kingdom until the British deposed the king in 1815. The first thing you will notice upon entering this magnificent city is how the weather changes from extreme to mild. Its cultural richness and its unique geography make Kandy to stood out from the rest of the places in Sri Lanka. Kandy also houses one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world, the Temple of Tooth, which was designed to protect the sacred tooth relic belonging to Lord Buddha. Throughout 1000s of years starting from the Anuradhapura kingdom this has been a symbol of the status denoting the right to ascend the throne. Not only the temples but also the visitors often wander along Kandy Lake and visit the stunning Peradeniya Botanical Garden, which was created by the British in the 19th century. With its unique culture, stunning gardens, beautiful temples, and tea factories where you can taste the real taste of true Ceylon tea, Kandy has a lot to offer.

Situated in the middle of Sri Lanka, this holy mountain is one of the major pilgrim sites in the country. Often called Sri pada derived from the meaning holy footprint or Samanala Kanda derived from the meaning the butterfly mountain, this is the 4th highest mountain in the country with rich biodiversity around the surrounding forests. The reason this mountain is sacred among Buddhist pilgrims is due to the footprint you can see on the peak. This impression in the summit is believed to be belonged to lord buddha himself, hence many devotees tend to reach the top during the season to invoke blessings. The journey itself is one of the famous journeys as it takes around 5 hours to reach the top and people tend to start their journey at night to be on top for the sunrise. This moment is called ira sewaya in the native language where you will see the 1st rays of the sun emerge through the mountains creating a breathtaking view and an illusion of the sun following the same rituals as worshipping. The Pilgrim season starts on the full moon of December and ends on the full moon of April.
